Come, Follow Me

"The more time you spend in the world, the more worldly you will be."  I'm sure you've heard that statement before; it is absolutely true.  When Jesus began His ministry, He chose disciples and then spent time investing in them.  This has 2 implications for you and me.

1) Like the disciples, we need solid, trusted leaders.  Jesus is not here in the flesh Himself, but He has given us the Holy Spirit to lead us.  We must find physical leaders to help us learn Jesus' character, so we can live out His character.

2) Like Jesus, we have the ability to influence other people.  Just like a financial investment, we have to carefully plan how (in whom) we should invest.  The Holy Spirit will lead us to identify people in our circles of influence.  John MacArthur has said something to the effect of "leadership is influence".  This is very true.  You will lead your friends by non-confrontationally challenging their thoughts and beliefs over coffee, lunch, and dinner.  Later when they are acting on these personal philosophies, they will have internal conflict and have to work through them.

Discipleship is a long-term process - not an instantaneous change.
